About Us
We are life and business partners, Claudia Graf (an Austrian baker) and Emma Scott (an Australian chef), and Our Place is our dream brought to life. We want to keep building relationships with locals and local producers because we believe Our Place can make a change.
After travelling through Europe for two months, eating at inspiring bakeries and soaking in the traditions of real bread, we returned to Melbourne with a vision - and the opportunity to take over a small shop in Heathmont. From there, Our Place began. Being resourceful, which wholesale has allowed us, we minimise wastage, choose local over other produce whenever possible, and create a space for community.
Everything we make is artisan and handmade. Our goal is simple: to give the community real bread - bread that isn’t available in supermarkets - crafted with care, using sustainable and organic ingredients and long fermentation times. From classic sourdoughs and focaccia to Shokupan and our inventive Shokuloni, every loaf and treat reflects our dedication to flavour, quality, and honesty.
The name “Our Place” came about while we were brainstorming ideas for the business. We said, “Oh, when we have our place…” and it just stuck. When we were thinking about a proper name, it had to be called Our Place - because that’s what it is: our vision, and a space for everyone - a place to share, connect, and benefit from together.
Our logo is inspired by Emma’s family home, where she grew up surrounded by home-cooked meals and a family that cherished food. The house represents an open door to anyone, welcoming and warm - and that’s exactly what we stand for at Our Place.
We’ve grown our business through wholesale with some well-renowned local venues, and continue to expand our product range, always with the aim of connecting people through honest, handmade food. Our Place is just us - creating artisan bread and pastries that bring people together and celebrate the simple joy of real, good ingredients.

SHOKUPAN
HOUSE SOURDOUGH LOAF
In all its glory, the humble country loaf, this loaf is one of if not the most important aspect of any bakery, the ear, the crust, the spoungy inside, that crackle when you cut it open. We like to think we do it the justice it deserves.
FICELLE
Ficelle, French for “string,” is a slim, elegant bread similar to a baguette, with a crisp crust and soft, airy crumb. Hand-shaped and baked to golden perfection, it’s fantastic on its own or topped with a few simple ingredients - think manchego and jamón, or figs and brie - for effortless, elevated flavours.
BAGUETTE
Seeded, not seeded, mini, or just how it comes, the baguette is a versatile classic that had managed to stay the same since its origin. This bread is single-handedly responsible for starting the French revolution. Some Aussies like to call it the French stick, we just call it delicious.
FOCACCIA
We're especially proud of our focaccia range. It’s taken a lot of effort to achieve those perfect big bubbles, just the right level of fragrant oil without being overpowering, and a crust with the ideal crunch. At Our Place we believe making bread is like chess, every move the bread makes, you need to be three steps ahead, though we may never win this game with focaccia, we have had an amazing battle.
The perfect staple, our Shokupan is soft, pillowy, and slightly sweet, with a tender, melt-in-your-mouth crumb. We’ve taken a lot of care developing this loaf, including using slow rises and preferments to build flavour naturally. Perfect for versatile sandwiches - some have even used it for a cheese fondue or ice cream sandwiches. It has a long shelf life, and we even take the same dough and turn it into our Shokuloni, a fluffy doughnut filled with sweet fillings that’s as light as it is indulgent.
ENGLISH MUFFIN
A crowd pleaser, our English muffins are hand-made and griddled individually to get that perfect golden exterior and soft, airy interior full of nooks and crannies. At Our Place, we think making them is a careful game - every flip, every minute on the griddle matters. Breakfast with bacon and egg, brunch with avocado and poached eggs, or even a cheeky McMuffin-style burger - these muffins are ready for anything. Fresh and honest, just the way we like it.
